A 90-kilogram bronze statue of Maharishi Sushruta, widely regarded as the Father of Surgery, has been unveiled at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1505, the institution is among the world's oldest and most respected surgical colleges. The statue was donated by the Cheruvu Family Foundation and unveiled through the efforts of UK-based surgeon Professor Chandra Cheruvu. Created by a sculptor from Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, it honours Sushruta's immense contributions to medicine. Living around 2,600 years ago, Sushruta is credited with performing over 300 surgical procedures, developing 124 surgical instruments, and authoring the Sushruta Samhita. Professor Cheruvu also released a book on Sushruta and announced two annual surgical scholarships.
